Over the course of my career as a wedding photographer, I have been lucky enough to work with some of the most talented vendors in the wedding industry. I always love to refer my clients to vendors I have worked with who I know do amazing work and will give them a truly incredible experience.
But today I am starting a new blog series that will introduce some of my favorite vendors so you can get to know them a little better too!
Today, meet Keegan Hisley of Simply Pretty Artistry. Keegan is an incredible bridal makeup artist based in Loveland, Colorado.
Read our Q & A below to get to know Keegan and her business a little better!
Q: How long have you been in the wedding industry and how did you get your start?
A: This is my 16th year .. I went to school to be a wardrobe stylist and fell into to makeup on accident haha. Turns out I’m way better at Makeup!
Q: What’s your favorite thing about being in the wedding industry?
A: I love hearing the sweet stories of how my couples met and I do love a good engagement story people get so creative.
Q:What types of services do you provide?
A: I’m a makeup artist who dabbles in hair. I offer makeup applications and lessons on location and in studio.
Q: What’s the biggest difference between bridal beauty and everyday makeup?
A: Looking natural but still making your features pop on camera, it’s a fine line. I think the products matter, you need thin layers of the right products that will hold up to tears and heat. Your makeup needs to last ALL day without lots of touchups.
Q: For those brides that are considering doing their own makeup for their big day, why would you recommend hiring a professional?
A: First off, you want to be pampered it’s your wedding day! Second, an professional will know all the right products to use that will hold up all day. Third, your photos are all you have the next morning when you wake up after the wedding day, you want to make sure you look amazing in them and professional makeup will do that!
Q: Do you have any skin care tips for brides leading up to their wedding?
A: YES! The better your skin looks the better the makeup looks. Always recommend a peel kit to my brides for glowing skin. The kits are fast easy and require no down time, you can get your glow in as little as three weeks. Also, Drink lots of water.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite products you can’t live without?
A: I love a tinted lip balm that also works as a cream blush, lash curler and mascara. They are my everyday must haves and the quickest way to look awake in under 5 min.
Q: When do you recommend brides book your services? Do you recommend a trial run?
A: Most of my Brides book me about a year out. Yes, trial runs are so important it assures that you and your artist are on the same page and makes the wedding day go so smoothly.
Q: What are your favorite beauty trends you see for 2021 and 2022 brides?
A: I always say stay away from trends when it come to wedding day makeup, go for something timeless and you will never regret it! Shimmering eyes and a nude lip will never be out of style. But, If your wanting to be trendy this year is all about Bold lips and soft eyes and pops of metallic. Also the biggest makeup trend of 2021 is SKIN .. healthy natural looking skin, so go get yourself a peel kit!
Q: Lastly, what’s the biggest piece of beauty advice you can give brides for their wedding day?
A: Don’t skimp on booking a makeup artist, we are honestly one of the lowest priced vendors you’ll hire through the wedding process and our job is so important were responsible for your face and I think that’s pretty important on the day of the wedding! Just because your friend is good at doing there own makeup doesn’t mean they know what to do with your face or have the right colors and products for you skin. Spoil yourself and you will be so happy when you get your photos back! Also, the 111SKIN Rose Gold Sheet Mask is my Holy Grail mask for the morning of the wedding your skin will look amazing!
